Mosquito Molecular Neuroscience Lab
Welcome to our lab!
We investigate the molecular, physiological, and behavioural basis of hearing, mating and swarming behaviour in disease-transmitting mosquitoes.
Our group is located in Madrid at CISA-INIA-CSIC, where we part of the department of pathology, immunology, and infectious disease control.
What drives our research
Hearing plays a central role in the reproduction of disease-transmitting mosquitoes. In aerial swarms, mosquitoes use the sound of wingbeats (flight tones) to recognise and choose mates while hundreds of individuals fly together.
Because hearing and swarming are essential for mating, they offer promising opportunities for new mosquito-control approaches. In our lab, we study the neuroscience and sensory mechanisms that underpin hearing and swarm-based mating, with the aim of understanding the fundamental biology and identifying potential targets for vector control.
