Brain organisation of the malaria mosquito
The development of genetic tools in mosquitoes that are based on CRISPR-Cas9 technologies is pushing the field of mosquito neurobiology and allowing the study of novel neuronal mechanisms. However, because mosquito neuroscience is an emerging and novel field, there are still important gaps of knowledge regarding basic aspects of the mosquito nervous system that hinder the advance of knowledge in the field. In the lab, we are trying to generate tools that help the mosquito neuroscience community by providing a detailed characterisation of the malaria mosquito brain organisation and by developing tools to analyse gene expression pattern in the mosquito brain and to study its neurocircuitry.
